As an eighth-grader at Immanuel Lutheran School in Seymour, Hannah Barker knew she someday wanted to be a college volleyball player.
By her sophomore year at Trinity Lutheran High School in Seymour, she started sending out letters to colleges. Between her junior and senior years, she had it narrowed down to two. In the end, Union College in Barbourville, Ky., stood out the most.
“I always looked up to the college girls that played volleyball, and I was like, ‘I want to be one of them one day,’” Barker said. “My senior year, I narrowed it down to Union and Franklin, and I visited both, and I just felt more comfortable at Union. It felt like home there. I felt safe there; it’s a small town, small school, which is what I wanted. And then, I just felt really comfortable around the coach.”
