Among the things basketball coaches like to see their veteran players do is step up when the game is on the line.
The Trinity Lutheran girls were clinging to a 43-41 lead in Saturday’s season-opener at home against Hauser when Mariah Nolan made two free throws with 39.5 seconds remaining to increase the lead to four.
After Leslie Sims made two free throws for the Jets with 25 seconds to go, Trinity’s Brianna Sons hit a pair from the line at 18 seconds, and Allison Posey added a free throw nine seconds later. Posey missed her second attempt, but she picked up the loose ball and put it in the basket to give the Cougars a 50-43 win in the Bollinger Athletic Complex.
