The Trinity Lutheran High School girls basketball team pulled together down the stretch this winter and wound up making school history with the first sectional title in the sport.
Sitting at 6-7 at the beginning of January, the Cougars finished the regular season winning six of their final seven games. They then defeated Springs Valley and Medora to reach the sectional championship game against West Washington, which they won in double overtime. Their run ended in the first game of the regional to Northeast Dubois, and they finished with a 15-9 record.
The team overcame adversity, including having a full roster available only six times. That’s what made the run special, second-year coach Mike Lang said.
