Use caution around water this summer

A drive past swimming pools at Shields Park in Seymour and Brownstown Park finds filled parking lots, shrieks of laughter and splashing water.

The same signs of summer fun can be found at lakes, ponds and beaches such as those at Starve Hollow State Recreation Area near Vallonia.

As many Hoosiers prepare for trips to the pool, beach, rivers and lakes, the Jackson County office of the Indiana Department of Child Services and the Department of Natural Resources recently offered a reminder for parents and guardians to make water safety a priority.
