Road work hampered; some schools closed

Road crews continued working Wednesday to clear snow and ice from more than 775 miles of streets and roads in Jackson County.

The lack of sunshine and continued frigid temperatures aren’t helping road crews in their battle, however.

“We’ve been putting salt and sand down, but it won’t do a lot of good until temperatures start warming up,” county highway superintendent Warren Martin said Wednesday afternoon.
