Winter utility bills skyrocket as mercury plummets



The January gas bill from Vectren Energy surprised Seymour resident Jessica Gillis.

It went from $28 in October to $383 in January. Her typical January bill is about $300, Gillis said.

The extreme cold this winter is sending a second punch as utility bills arrive in people’s mailboxes throughout Jackson County.
