More people sought appointment to a vacant Seymour City Council seat Monday night than there are members on the council.

After six ballots, Republican precinct committee members chose Jennifer Brooks Siefker, from a pool of nine candidates to replace at-large council member Jim Lucas.

Lucas resigned his seat on the council this month after being elected state representative in House District 69 of the Indiana General Assembly. He was sworn in as a state representative during the Indiana General Assembly’s Organization Day on Tuesday.

Siefker joins six other city residents on the council. She is the first female member since Mary Voss Burgmeier left the council at the end of 2007.
