Woman rescued from North Vernon apartment fire

A North Vernon woman was unconscious and barely breathing when she was pulled out of her smoke-filled apartment late Monday night.

The woman was found by three North Vernon city police officers inside her bathroom at the Lincoln Place Apartments shortly after 11:30 p.m., according to a news release from the North Vernon Police Department.

Officers Chris Campbell, Scott Willis and Andrew Richmond, who were among the first emergency responders, had gained access through a rear door, and were wearing gas masks when they found the victim, the release stated.
