So far Indiana’s 9th District congressional candidates have agreed to two debates.

Still at question is when, where and how debates between Democrat Shelli Yoder and incumbent Republican Todd Young will unfold and whether any others will take place.

Campaign staffs confirmed Thursday that debates have been agreed to in Harrison and Johnson counties, one at each end of the sprawling district that reaches from the southern border of Indianapolis to the Ohio River.

One will be hosted by Franklin College in Johnson County, and the other will be hosted by O’Bannon Publishing in Harrison County. Dates and formats were not available, Trevor Foughty of Young’s campaign staff said Thursday.

He assumed the Johnson County debate will take place at Franklin College.

“We had hoped to reach a formal agreement on format, including having the questions at the debates come from the audience, but unfortunately the other side wasn’t willing to agree to such specifics at this point,” Foughty said.

The Yoder campaign proposed 13 debates — one in each county. That was trimmed to a proposed seven after Young accepted two debates, Katie Carlson of Yoder’s campaign staff said.
