United Way 2-1-1 is partnering with Cummins Inc. to build awareness in communities the information agency serves.

On Nov. 2, Cummins employees are volunteering their time and placing door hangers in low-income areas explaining the services 2-1-1 offers in Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson and Jennings counties.

The 2-1-1 service is a free phone number that connects people to community resources.

In 2011, the 2-1-1 responded to nearly 13,000 callers, connecting people to more than 19,000 resources in their communities, the agency said.

Jackson County United Way helps support the program locally.
