BOZEMAN, Montana — Montana State football coach Rob Ash has named Dakota Prokup the team's starting quarterback.

The sophomore from Austin, Texas, beat out last year's backup, junior Jake Bleskin of Great Falls, in the battle to take over for four-year starter DeNarius McGhee.

Ash released the depth chart for MSU's Aug. 30 season opener at Arkansas State on Tuesday. He says he'll name his starting punter and place kicker on Thursday.

During Saturday's scrimmage, Prokup completed 8 of 9 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown, while Bleskin went 8-of-10 for 72 yards and a score. Redshirt freshman Quinn McQueary completed all 13 of his passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns, including a 68-yarder. He also scored on a 9-yard run.

Two freshmen earned starting spots — defensive end Garrett Marino and long snapper Rocky Hogue.
