BLOOMINGTON, Indiana — Indiana Excise Police are known for breaking up parties involving underage drinkers, but recently in Bloomington they told the Meadowood Retirement Community it could no longer serve beer and wine to residents during its weekly social hour.
The Herald-Times (http://bit.ly/1nfbAns ) reports Meadowood stopped the practice last month. Officials there then told administrators at Bell Trace Independent Living and Assisted Living, which stopped its practice of serving wine at social hours.
Excise police Cpl. Travis Thickstun said facilities that want to serve alcohol must obtain a license.
Meadowood administrator Larry Diersing says he doesn't know how the facility's social hour was reported to excise police. Thickstun says the excise police division relies on tips or complaints from individuals and investigates every tip.
