GRAND FORKS, North Dakota — University of North Dakota football coach Bubba Schweigert has named sophomore Joe Mollberg starting quarterback to begin the season.

Mollberg will be behind center when UND takes on San Jose State in its season opener on Aug. 28.

Schweigert cited Mollberg's knowledge of the offense and his performance in fall camp.

Mollberg started seven games as a redshirt freshman in 2013 and battled for the starting position with classmate Ryan Bartels.
