Seymour Gamma Phi’s first meeting of 2023 was held at the home of Marla Sciarra on Jan. 17.

Since its first meeting of the fiscal year in August, the chapter has been busy with fundraising and most importantly, fun. In addition to another year of running the cakewalk at the Seymour Oktoberfest, the chapter sold nuts for the holidays. Even with so much hard work to fund scholarships and support other community projects, the sisters found plenty of time to enjoy together.

The September meeting coincided with the celebration of the chapter’s 95th anniversary, which was hosted at Karla Hubbard’s beautiful restored barn. The meeting was complete with cake and homemade ice cream made by Heather VonDielingen — yum!

October brought a visit from Province II Officer Chris Williams of the Jeffersonville Alpha Kappa, which took place at Moxie Coffee Co. Thank you to Montica Chambers for allowing us the opportunity to enjoy the delicious beverages at her wonderful new coffee shop.

November’s meeting was at Jerilyn Mellencamp’s home and was followed by a relaxing yoga session led by inactive Gamma Phi member Heather Boknecht, owner of Studio SPF in Brownstown.

The calendar year wrapped up with a festive gathering at Vat & Barrel in Seymour with plenty of scrumptious food and drinks. After the meeting, Recording Secretary Lauren Mincy-Vu of Laurilyn Floral Design led a holiday greenery arrangement workshop. Everyone had a great time creating beautiful arrangements, and Santa Claus himself even popped in to wish the sisters a Merry Christmas.

After the January meeting, the members had a great time tasting wines with Claudia Mager of Wine Shop at Home. The wonderful Just for Fun committee of Marla Sciarra and Laura Cottrill have some more plans in the works for the rest of the year — more to come! And of course, the chapter will be busy doing the work of Tri Kappa, promoting charity, culture and education in the Seymour community.
