WOLCOTT, Indiana — Indiana State Police say one southbound lane of Interstate 65 has reopened north of Lafayette after two crashes a few miles apart brought traffic to a standstill.
The Lafayette Journal & Courier reports one of the southbound lanes that had been closed for hours reopened by 6 p.m. EST Wednesday. Southbound traffic was diverted onto other roads.
Sgt. Kim Riley says the first crash involving several vehicles occurred before 9:25 a.m. near the U.S. 231 exit in White County about 20 miles north of Lafayette. Later, a second crash affecting two semitrailers and a truck occurred about three miles further north.
The Journal & Courier reported the earlier crash involved several semitrailers and left a large amount of debris on the highway.
