TUCSON, Arizona — University of Arizona officials have announced plans to start a veterinary medical school supported by private funds.
The Arizona Daily Star reported (http://bit.ly/1rsjbmK) Saturday that a $9 million endowment from the Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation will go toward establishing a veterinary school in 2015.
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Dean Shane Burgess says students will be able to pursue veterinary medical degrees in a shorter time at a lower cost.
Burgess says $3 million will go toward buying or adapting facilities across the state for veterinary training.
The school had previously requested funding from the state for a school after the Arizona Board of Regents approved the concept.
But lawmakers passed on the proposal.
